I had the opportunity to run around an empty summer camp in the Illinois woods this August. It was warm and peaceful, and kind of like a dream I've had since I was a kid. I found the camp itself far less oppressive than expected, considering the stern rituals and morbid fanaticism built into its buildings, bedrooms and trees. I understood it to a degree, even — I'm also obsessed with death.
